In addition to other developing things here at SmartArtMarket, we are proud to be able to present a newly acquired piece by The Royal Academy artist, W.L.Wyllie. Acclaimed in his lifetime as the quintissential British maritime artist, he was a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers as well as the painter to The Royal Victoria Yatch Club. Widely exhibited among Britain’s finest collections, including London’s Tate Gallery, he won the Turner Gold Medal in 1869. The piece shown here is a stone lithograph and is signed in pencil by the artist.

SmartArtMarket happily announces the acquisition of several new pieces for our gallery collection. A rather fortunate connection between an estate liquidator and SmartArtMarket has brought us several pieces by one of our favorite artists. Stay tuned for details.

Unearthed in an attic

Another painting of Jim’s was recently found along with two others in an attic during an estate cleanout. It depicts the inner harbor in Rockport with the original Motif #1 in the center background.
It is 18×24, oil on board, signed and although undated, we estimate it to have been painted in the late 50’s or early 60’s when Jim had his gallery there, and seems to have developed a relationship with the family. Three pieces were found in the estate, one was dated 1961.
